More About Me
As a licensed psychologist who works with individuals ages 6 and older, I strive to use warmth, unwavering support, and practical strategies to help clients meet their unique goals. My therapeutic style is collaborative, supportive, and individualized. I integrate evidence-based interventions that are best for each client, primarily drawing from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I see the strengths in each of my clients and support them in uncovering their potential for growth.
With children and adolescents, I initially focus on building rapport to help youth feel comfortable and safe in the therapeutic relationship. I have experience working with children and teenagers who are starting therapy for a variety of reasons, such as anxiety (including selective mutism, phobias, and social anxiety), OCD, perfectionism, depression, grief, relationship challenges, and ADHD. My training at an anxiety and OCD-specialty clinic during graduate school sparked my special interest in treating anxiety, OCD, and related disorders across the lifespan. When providing individual therapy to youth, I highly value communication with parents, ensuring that parent concerns are heard and parents are knowledgeable about their child’s therapy goals and treatment plan. I give children and parents concrete strategies to practice outside of therapy sessions to promote progress and lasing change.
With adult clients, I specialize in working with young adults and women. I especially enjoy working with adults who may be seeking therapy due to concerns with anxiety, OCD, challenging life transitions, relationship difficulties, and caregiving stress. My approach with adults is supportive, pragmatic, and collaborative. I work to provide practical tools to manage distressing symptoms, while also promoting deeper work around values, acceptance, and psychological flexibility to help adults lead more fulfilling lives. I check in with clients regularly to ensure that we’re making progress towards their unique goals and evolving needs.
As a parent myself, I know how valuable, rewarding, and challenging parenting is. I’m deeply committed to supported parents in caring for their own mental health. I offer consultation sessions with parents to provide general parenting support and to assist with specific concerns that parents may have for their child, such as navigating big feelings, challenging behaviors, or anxiety. I’ve been trained in and have experience providing Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), an evidence-based, parent-focused treatment program for youth with anxiety, OCD, and related concerns (see spacetreatment.net for more information about this program). This approach can be especially useful for children or adolescents who might be resistant to individual therapy, or for complex cases in which children are already receiving individual therapy but additional support is needed.
In addition to providing individual therapy and parent consultation, I also deliver psychological assessment at Bloom. My background in school psychology, which allowed for a variety of experiences conducting comprehensive evaluations across elementary, middle, and high school settings, has prepared me well for assessing clients with a wide variety of presenting concerns (including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD/ADHD, learning disorders, and mood disorders). Evaluations can feel like an intimidating process, and it’s my goal to ensure that clients feel as comfortable as possible in the testing environment. I take great care in conducting evaluations that provide valuable information to individuals and families, allowing for enhanced understanding about an individual’s functioning as well as clarity about next steps.
